On our July social night, the quiet summer evening was rocked into life by the great Swing music played by Esther and the Jitterbugs. The scene was set with the hall decked with fairy lights, large American and British Flags and posters of rock and roll legends, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley & The Comets and many more. Centre stage was an amazing Wurlitzer, designed and made for us by John Fell who lives in the village, it really was incredible.
The stage was set for Esther and her dancers, dressed in 40’s and 50’s style clothing to show us their amazing routines. Their expertise and dancing techniques as they stepped and twirled set plenty of toes tapping! Esther and David (Texas Tommy) are both long-established teachers of Swing, Jive and Lindy Hop. They both love to wear period clothes and are seldom seen out wearing anything modern. They have built up quite a reputation and following and are in great demand for special events all around Suffolk and Essex. (Find out more here).
After enjoying hot dogs and plenty of ice-cream sodas we had a lot of fun trying ourselves as Esther gave us a lively jive lesson. It looked so easy until you tried to put it all together!! To round off the evening Alex was presented with the prize for the best costume in 40’s – 50’s style. We were also treated to a terrific choice of raffle prizes in keeping with the theme of the evening. I wasn’t lucky enough to win that eve but am still hoping that one day ….
