See Village Hall Progress this Saturday

The Peldon Village Hall Management Committee invite all to a coffee morning this Saturday 11th February.  Taking place at St Mary’s Church between 10am – 12 noon cakes and refreshments will be on offer.  Builders have made progress on the hall with the foundation and floor now complete.  The site visit will allow you to walk through the site with the rooms marked out so you can get an idea of the layout.

No charge will be made although any donations would be welcome, since although the build is fully funded, money is still needed for fitting out of the hall.

Leonardo da Panto

Leonardo da Panto

It’s that time of year!

Hello All, this year the Peldon Panto moves into St Mary’s as the construction of the new hall gets underway.  An amazing challenge for the players this year as we tread boards previously untrodden in a new setting.

Come to see Leonardo da Panto in a truly authentic(ish) renaissance-style backdrop.  Written by Simon Nunan, this panto looks at the Italian renaissance, with beautiful, scheming Borgias, Machiavellian intrigue, and slap-dash artists.

Cheer for the goodies, boo at the baddies, hiss at the interval wine….

We’d love to see you there, tickets are selling out fast.

  • 25th – 27th Jan 7.30pm
  • 28th Jan 2.00pm and 7.30pm

BOX OFFICE contact Mel Newton on: 07738 000378 or [email protected]

Hope to see you all there.

Demolition of Peldon Village Hall

Demolition of Peldon Village Hall

The following update has been received from the Peldon Village Hall Management Committee.

demolition-of-peldon-village-hallA short and somewhat bitter-sweet note to let you all know that the demolition work has commenced. We think it’s safe to say that the roof is leakier now than it’s ever been and that’s saying something. We are unsure how the demolition team will fare as they negotiate the sign near the bucket and string which states ‘do not move’ but we’re pretty sure they’ll cope.

So goodbye, village hall, as you make way for bigger and better things for Peldon and the surrounding villages. Thanks for all of the memories you have given us over the last 50 years, we’ll make sure we do all we can to make sure that the new hall is bustling full of life and bookings.

If you have any questions please direct them back to us via email or the Facebook messaging system.

Thank you all to those who have helped to make getting to this stage possible be that through volunteering your time, donating or helping to raise funds. We still have some gaps to close so please keep backing us (and on that note, Panto tickets go on sale this weekend!)

Peldon Village Hall – Contract Awarded

Stroods Specialist Contractors appointed to rebuild Peldon Village Hall

Peldon Village Hall Management Committee announces that its preferred contractor to build the new village hall in Peldon  is Stroods Specialist Contractors of West Mersea.

Bob Holmes, PVH Treasurer, said:

After an extensive tendering process, Stroods emerged as the clear winners with a proposal that met our budget expectations.  We’re delighted that, after several years spent working on the project, we’ve reached the stage when the building work is about to start and that we’ve been able to appoint a local firm with a good reputation for efficient delivery and strong connections to our village.

Lee Tyler, Director of Stroods, commented:

We’re very pleased to have been selected to carry out this project to replace a critical community asset with an exciting new building that will be of great benefit to the residents of Peldon and the surrounding area for many years to come.  We’re looking forward to working with the Management Committee in the coming months.

The Management Committee expects work to start on site in November with the new hall completed by the summer of 2017.

Funding the project

The total project cost, including professional fees, will be around £500,000.  The majority of the costs are coming from grants awarded by:

  • Essex County Council’s Community Initiative Fund,
  • the Abberton Reservoir Community Fund, and
  • Colchester Borough Council’s Big Choice Fund.

The remaining funds are coming from money raised by the Village Hall’s many fundraising activities over the last 6 years, including its recent Buy-a-Brick appeal which remains open, and from commitments from residents to lend the hall any final remaining funds by investing in PVH Bonds.

The Management Committee would like to express their sincere thanks to the grant funders and to all residents whose support over the years has made the project possible.
