PAWS July – Music & Monologues
25th July was PAWS last meeting in the lovely St Mary’s church; it was a great evening with music & monologues from Elaine Barker:
Elaine threw off the straightjacket of school teaching and moved on to the good life: a new home in a country village, giving guitar lessons, calling for local dances with the best of the local folk bands, performing as a singer and guitarist, reciting comic monologues, organising a very successful folk club – and writing 2 books about learning to play the guitar. Lots of Music
Elaine brought along her guitar and sang lots of great songs from the 60s that all joined in with. She also told the story of the day Albert Ramsbottom visited the tower of London and got chased by Lady Jane Gray’s axman!
During the break there was a a Ploughman’s Supper with cider, thanks to Caroline. The evening continued with songs from shows like ‘Oklahoma’ and ‘South Pacific’ with some Cliff Richard songs too, which most remembered.
A most enjoyable evening finished just after 9.30pm. From September PAWS will be meeting in the new Peldon & Wigboroughs Community Hall!

As PAWS don’t meet in August their next get together will be on 26th September when Emily Yarrow will entertain with “Life as a Singer – with songs!” Membership is currently full but visitors are very welcome at a cost of £5.00 which includes refreshments.
