Essex Highways’ ‘Capital Maintenance Programme’ reaches Winstred Hundred this week with 3 roads in the parish to be benefitting from Surface Dressing accompanied by road closures. We have been advised by Essex County Council’s Highways team that the following roads will be closed from Monday 15th April for a period of 5 days:
… from the junction with Bounstead Road to the junction with Mersea Road B1025 (see map). The closure is to facilitate urgent road repairs. Access to property will be maintained during the closure.

Essex County Council has announced the temporary closure of Abberton Road, in the Parish of Langenhoe, from its junction with B1025 Mersea Road to its junction with Fingringhoe Road.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 9 November 2010 for 1 day and is required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst carriageway resurfacing works are undertaken.
The alternative route will be via 81025 Mersea Road – Fingringhoe Road and vice versa. Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.
Essex Countil Council have given notice of the temporary closure of the B1022 Maldon Road from its junction with Newbridge Road south west to its junction with Haynes Green Road.
These overnight closures are scheduled to commence on 30th September for 2 nights between the 7.00pm to 7.00am or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst carriageway resurfacing works is undertaken by Essex County Council.
Access for emergency service vehicles and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.
This will be good long-term news for all the residents and users of School Lane, Great Wigborough, even though it will be a nuisance in the short term.
Essex County Council have advised us that the whole of School Lane will be closed for five days from 2nd August 2010 for much needed repairs. The works will be subject to weather conditions and we will keep you posted as and when we hear anything further.
Our thanks are due to our Borough Councillors, Andrew Ellis and Kevin Bentley, who have agitated continuously to get these repairs undertaken as a priority when there are so many demands on limited resources. Guys – our suspensions and wheel rims and dodgy backs all thank you.
