  1. Playgrounds and Playing Fields are in good order and the grass was in perfect condition for all Jubilee events.   The new Peldon play equipment was officially opened by Robert, who had only just stepped down as Colchester Mayor. There were many children and adults for the occasion with games and fun had by all.  Peldon and Wigboroughs joined forces for many events at Peldon over the Jubilee weekend and Great Wigborough Church held an afternoon tea event with children’s games as did Salcott. All the villages played their part to celebrate this momentous occasion. The parish council gifted commemorative mugs to all the children.
A new bench has been installed at Salcott next to the playground and Book Box funded by Borough Councillor’s Locality Budget.
Peldon benches, one for inside the playground and a picnic table are in storage ready for installation in the near future.

PC Minutes 14th September 2021

WINSTRED HUNDRED PARISH COUNCIL

Peldon   Great Wigborough   Little Wigborough   Salcott   Virley

Draft minutes of the meeting of Winstred Hundred Parish Council held at Salcott Village Hall on Tuesday 14th September 2021 at 7.30pm

Present: Catherine Sprott, Netty Knill Jones, Wendy Ritherdon, Phil Gladwin, Clare Lauwerys (chair), Jinny Gale, Liz Davidson, Robert Kean and 2 members of the public

Apologies for absence: Robert Davidson, Kevin Bentley, John Walker, Andrew Ellis

Minutes of the last meeting were agreed by all and signed by the chairman

County and Borough Councillor Reports: None given

Public-Have Your Say: The difference in newly installed road surfaces along the main road through our villages was questioned and discussed. The parish council has given permission for the necessary branches of trees on the Salcott field to be cut off enabling a property to obtain the fibre connection with CBB. The parish council will request the need for signage to indicate when approaching the junction at the Salcott crossroads where there has been yet another accident. The Lodge Lane name sign has been damaged and a badly fitted manhole cover, in between the golf club and the crossroads, will be reported for attention. A big thank you to Sam Jones for tidying up verges and ditches at Mill Lane.

Declarations of Interest: None

  1. Playgrounds and Playing Fields are in reasonable order with grass cutting to be discussed item 2. The new Peldon play equipment will be installed in the near future. Salcott play equipment has been repainted and looks very smart. Unfortunately though, it would seem that the big swings are getting swung over the top bar of the frame which breaks the pigeon deterrent wire, so we would like to request that this can be explained to the older children so that we can keep the seats in a clean condition for all users. Salcott Village Hall Management Committee is looking into installing a CCTV camera. It was proposed and agreed by all for the Salcott painting work at £850 and parts for repairing the net swing at Peldon for £51.
  2. Grass Cutting has proved extremely difficult this year with exceptional early and constant growth and continuous rain from the offset hence the first cut on both fields leaving a residue of cuttings which has resulted in complaints from some residents. Quotes and discussions with grass cutters will take place for future picking up of loose grass when considered necessary and shorter cutting. Conversations with other local councils reveal cutting has been a wide spread problem this year.
  3. Speed Cameras correspondence has been received from companies selling speed cameras and so initially the parish council will be consulting highways before going ahead with any further discussion about cost, maintenance and possible sites.
  4. Great Wigborough Village Sign that was knocked down and damaged by a vehicle is being dealt with by the parish council insurance and will be reinstated in due course.
  5. Actions and reminder List – updated

Advance Notice – Closure of Colchester Road

We have been given advance notice of the overnight closure of part of Colchester Road in Peldon on 3 nights (9pm – 5am) some time between 13th June and 13th December (we will hopefully get more specific dates nearer the time).  The picture shows the approximate extent of the closure and the diversionary route that will be put in place, there will, undoubtedly, be an increase in overnight traffic flow through Peldon during these closures.
