If you are a carer in need of some support, or maybe you know somebody who is and does, then Supporting Carers in Essex offers “A single source of help and advice for all unpaid carers”.  This organisation is a partnership of registered charities working together offering a single point of contact by phone or email.  The group offers the following range of support (the links will take you to their website where you can find out much more):

Adult Carers

A carer is someone, who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.  Adult Carers aged 18 years and over can access a wide variety of services.

Young Adult Carers

Young Adult Carers are young people between  the age of 16 and 24 whose life is in some way restricted because of the need to take responsibility for the care of a person on a regular basis. They may be the main Carer, or provide partial care for a brother, sister, mother, father, grandparent, husband, wife or partner. The person being cared for may have a long-term illness, a physical or sensory impairment, learning difficulties, mental illness or be affected by alcohol or substance misuse.

Young Carers

The term Young Carer applies to anyone aged under eighteen whose life is in some way restricted because of the need to take responsibility for the care of a person on a regular basis. They may be the main Carer, or provide partial care for an adult or sibling. The person being Cared–for may have a long-term illness, a physical or sensory impairment, learning difficulties, mental illness or be affected by alcohol / substance misuse.

Young Carers are a vulnerable and disadvantaged group who can experience difficulties in their education.  Without support Young Carers often struggle to attend school and can find progressing academically difficult; not reaching their full potential.
